The cost of a first class stamp went up a penny over the weekend and it seems no one noticed. The one thing that could explain that is the use of the Forever Stamp, which was first introduced in 2007.
Gone are the days of scrambling to buy enough one cent stamps to cover the stamps you already had on hand.
Six years ago, the Forever Stamp cost 41 cents. If you bought one then you could still use it today, until it is cancelled of course. As of Sunday, a stamp costs 46 cents.
The U.S. Postal Office introduced several other changes Sunday. Among them is the new Global Forever Stamp. The price to mail a one ounce letter or post card anywhere in the world costs $1.10. If you buy a Global Forever Stamp now, you can use it anytime in the future.
