The promise has been repeated for months in a west Omaha neighborhood. A long standing eyesore would be torn down to make way for an exciting development. Fact Finders first exposed delays in June and Fact Finders learned a citation has been issued by law enforcement.
The old Skyline golf course clubhouse is secure so owner Dan Livingston says it’s an eyesore not a hazard and his promise to neighbors in June haven’t changed. Livingston said then, " I realize their concerns but would ask for their patience."
But patience has run out for some neighbors. Tom Spethman a neighbor across the street says, " We’ve given ample time to try to make something happen here and it’s not happening."
Now the golf course developer must face a judge. It appears city inspectors believe efforts to tear the structure have been sub-par. Fact Finders has learned the owner of property Dan Livingston, who is on the Sanitary Improvement District board has been issued a criminal citation at a board meeting last week.
The city had a Douglas County Deputy cite Livingston for: 1- Owning an unsafe structure that 2- presents an imminent danger and 3- causes littering. The citation issued during an S-I-D board meeting attended by the homeowner’s association president, Rod Lighthipe. He says, "We regret it came to this absolutely. We’ve always remained supportive of him but we're disappointed in the continuing delay."
But Livingston says a locator service on site shows the pre-demolition process is eighty percent complete and he'll get a permit soon. A promise heard before.
Tom Spethman says, "We’re told in April this would have been down and here we are how many months later it’s still not done yet."
Livingston says the citation is another obstacle that will cost time and money but he holds fast to a first tee time at the majors club next summer.
The old golf course has more than one hundred acres so that's why Livingston and his son hold two of five seats on the S-I-D board. He says his intent is to improve the neighborhood without raising taxes.
