Despite Flood Threat Town Improvements Continue

The Cassgram reports the 5th and Main Street intersection opened last week and at the same time, crews were placing signs to close the 6th and Main Street intersection.

6th & Main had originally been scheduled to close a few days earlier, but crews ran into extra work and did not close it until yesterday, says Charles Jones of the Plattsmouth Main Street Association. 6th and Main will be closed for about a month.

The downtown construction remains on schedule with major construction expected to be wrapped up in a month or so.

Due to the water conservation efforts with the flooding issues, flowers and plants will not be placed downtown this year, says Jones. Trees, which will be dormant at planting, will be placed this fall.

Jones says he’s been asked if it is OK to plant flowers now in the planter boxes to beautify downtown a bit. He says it’s alright to do so, but keep in mind the flowers will be removed next spring when the landscaping contractor returns.
