A second Democrat is jumping into the 2012 2nd House District race in the hopes of taking the seat now held by Republican Rep. Lee Terry.
The Nebraska Democratic Party on Monday emailed invitations to
state Sen. Gwen Howard's planned 5 p.m. Wednesday announcement at the Sheet Metal Workers Local 3 in south Omaha.
The 66-year-old Howard, of Omaha, is a social worker who is
wrapping up her second term in the Nebraska Legislature. Term
limits keep her from seeking a third term.
She will face Douglas County Treasurer John Ewing, who announced
his candidacy in July, in the Democratic primary next year.
Nebraska Democratic Party Executive Director Jim Rogers said
Howard "has devoted her career to fighting for those who typically
do not have a voice in government."
