A former independent ministry director testifies in his own defense. He's accused of sexually assaulting a young girl.
40-year-old Stewart Newman is accused of molesting a girl, when she was between 6 & 10 years old. The girl, now 12, testified for the prosecution Monday morning.
Newman took the stand and said she was lying about some of the allegations, and that his previous statements were misunderstood. Newman did admit to showing the girl pornography when she was 8, and to inappropriately touching her.
Police say Newman ran two independent ministries that work with children and operated them out of King of King’s Church. The church said Newman was a member but not associated with the kid’s ministry at all. He was also the band and choir director of Performance Arts Through Him, which works with pre-kindergartners on up.
Newman is charged with one count of 1st Degree Sexual Assault and six counts of Child Pornography. A judge is expected to decide a verdict Tuesday morning.
