A severe thunderstorm watch is in effect until midnight Sunday for much of eastern Nebraska, including Omaha. A tornado watch is in effect until 10 p.m. for Nebraska counties south of the metro and a large portion of western Iowa, including Council Bluffs.
An Omaha woman was killed Thursday morning in a motorcycle crash. Her boyfriend, who was following behind her in a car, witnessed the accident.
Police said Stacy Hauser was on her way to work, heading eastbound on Military Avenue approaching Pinkney when she failed to make the curve and drove into oncoming traffic, hitting a westbound car just before 7:30 a.m.
Hauser was thrown onto the car's windshield, then onto the pavement. She was taken to Creighton University Medical Center where she was pronounced dead. Hauser, who was wearing a helmet, turned 33 on Wednesday.
The driver of the car, 51-year-old Mary Simonsen of Omaha, was not hurt. Police said speed and alcohol did not appear to be factors in the accident.
