Day After Brickwork Completed, Homeowners Rocked By Vandalism

An act of vandalism hits home, leaving a Sarpy County couple wondering why.

One day after their house near 72nd and Cornhusker got a facelift, excitement turned to shock for the Koraleskis, who returned home to find their new brickwork broken and scratched.

“It definitely shows anger,” said Bob Koraleski.

“Seeing the wall, oh my gosh, I almost got sick,” said Rita Koraleski. “It had just been finished the day before.”

Someone appeared to have used a sledgehammer on their entryway. “It’s not somebody that would just be walking down the street and decide to do some damage and vandalism,” said Bob. “This was somebody who basically knew what they were doing.” They can only speculate on a motive for destruction of the new brick. “Why? That's the question, why?”

A few days after filing a claim on their homeowner's insurance, the bricks were replaced, though the couple is left paying a $1,200 deductible and possibly have a black mark on their policy. They hope whoever was responsible is caught, not just for justice but restitution. “It has to be one angry person that did that,” said Bob.

The damage has been repaired, but the Koraleskis say it will take more than brick and mortar to rebuild their sense of security. Anyone with information about the vandalism is asked to call Sarpy County Crime Stoppers at 402-592-STOP.
