Daniel Stratman, 23, is facing six months in prison for hacking into UNL’s database.
Stratman will be allowed work release while serving his prison sentence, and will then be required to serve a three-year term of supervised release. He was also ordered to pay $107,722.58 in restitution.
Stratman was a senior at UNL when he hacked into the system.
Investigators say a search warrant of his residence and forensic examination of his computers verified that Stratman had damaged the integrity of the protected computer systems and records maintained by the University of Nebraska and the Nebraska State College Systems.
