Aaron Danoff was just 18-years old when he smashed into a vehicle killing newlywed Jessica Lutton Bedient.

Walking into Judge Bataillon's courtroom Aaron Danoff is looking to set the record straight. He was drunk and ran a red light on the night his vehicle slammed into Jessica Lutton Bedient and her husband.

Glenn Shapiro says, "He is very, very remorseful and as I said he used the term I want to plead guilty and that is because from his heart he has wanted to do this. He knows he has to do that to heal the family and to heal himself as well."

Remorseful or not, Jessica’s family and friends say the crash that took her life will impact us all. Jessica volunteered, donated blood, and helped others help themselves. A loss like that will be felt for years and they say Aaron Danoff did not have to drink and drive that night.

David Lutton says, "It is a choice that you make and so there has to be consequences for that. I pray for that young man, I pray for his family because I know that they are losing him as well."

How long a sentence and how it will be served is now entirely up to Judge Bataillon.

Prosecutors say Jessica Lutton Bedient's death at 144th and Q is so severe that it requires some significant time behind bars. The defense says Danoff is a young man and they would like to see a sentence that reflects rehabilitation rather than punishment. The judge decides on April 18th.

Douglas County Attorney Don Kleine tells Channel 6 News that his office has 169 pending cases of felony DUI.

Four of those include serious bodily injury, another four involve motor vehicle homicide.
