Officials say they'll have to drain water behind Bruning Dam to repair damage caused by vandalism.
Mike Onnen is general manager of the Little Blue Natural Resources District. He told the Lincoln Journal Star that big chunks of concrete were tossed down the dam riser, smashing into a valve.
He says water has gushed through the broken valve for weeks.
Repairs couldn't be made because the water pressure on the valve was too high.
So, he says, the 250-acre lake must be drawn down first.
The lake is about 4 miles from Bruning and is popular with anglers and bird hunters.
Onnen says valve will be repaired yet this fall, but the lake won't start refilling until spring.
