About 73 percent of the more than 3,000 UNL students who voted in Wednesday's campus election supported the $2.46 per semester to
fund the newspaper.
Supporters of the newspaper had worried that the Daily Nebraskan
might lose roughly 16 percent of its $700,000 annual budget because
a low turnout was expected. The newspaper had been considering drastic changes, such as eliminating the print edition, if it lost funding.
Daily Nebraskan editor Jenna Gibson told the Lincoln Journal Star she was glad her fellow students supported the newspaper.
UNL students also chose Lane Carr, a junior from Ainsworth, to be the next student body president. He ran unopposed.
