A Des Moines man surrendered to police Thursday for the shooting death of his 4-year-old daughter.
Twenty-four-year-old Adam Mead faces charges of involuntary manslaughter, neglect of a dependent person and two counts of making firearms available to minors.
His daughter Lillium died April 21st of a single gunshot wound to the chest. Mead told authorities he set a loaded .45 caliber handgun on a dresser. The girl got a hold of the gun and shot herself. Police say the evidence supports Mead's version of events.
Mead was released from the Polk County Jail after his $17,500 bond was posted about an hour after he turned himself in. If convicted on all charges he faces up to 17 years in prison.
