Criminal mischief is probably the least of Hezekiah Smith’s worries. Lincoln police say the 23-year-old man literally woke up a neighborhood as he tried to evade officers while drunk driving Thursday morning.
Police say they were called to the 400 block of West Cornhusker. As Smith tried to flee the area, he struck two police cruisers, a utility pole, several air conditioning units and a gas meter.
People living in an eight-plex apartment building were forced to evacuate as utility workers and Lincoln Fire & Rescue secured the leak.
Smith was arrested and cited for four counts of criminal mischief, fleeing to avoid arrest, disturbing the peace, second offense DUI, refusing a chemical test, driving with a suspended license, willful reckless driving, and failure to comply.
