Holiday shoppers were ringing up Cyber Monday sales for Omaha companies with some long reach.
Omaha Steaks says Cyber Monday is a big deal for them. Like mail order businesses across the country, millions of people are hitting the buy button online and phoning-in their orders as well.
Todd Simon, the Sr. Vice President for Omaha Steaks, said, “Cyber Monday turns out to be a really big increase over sort of a normal day. We end up probably doing three or four times our normal volume. And this year we've nearly tripled the staff in our call center for the entire holiday season."
Simon said Internet traffic is also much higher. The company brought a second set of servers online to handle all the Internet browsing and online orders.
Omaha-based, online retailer Hayneedle was also running in high gear on Monday. The company prepares all year for the shopping blitz and doubled its staff in the call center for the Cyber Monday surge.
Hayneedle’s Director of Marketing, Donna Faust, said, "Today is going to be Hayneedle’s biggest day of the year. We will generate five times the revenue today that we do on an average day."
The company expected to generate 40 orders per minute on Monday – 10-times the normal pace.
