A gas main break caused big problems in a West Omaha neighborhood Tuesday morning. It happened around 11:30.
The break was located in an open lot at 187th and Leavenworth, a few blocks north of Pacific, with houses on all sides around it.
Omaha Fire Department Crews, MUD, and the Douglas County Sheriff’s Department all arrived on scene and neighbors were forced from their homes.
Madison Carson was among them. She said, "We were just hanging out in the house and we could smell the gas. It started - they cut it. They're building a house next door and told us that we needed to evacuate. So we're you know waiting for someone to come pick us up because we can't go back for a while."
The leak was fixed and gas service was restored around 4 p.m.
