Cause Of Vacant House Blaze Investigated

Omaha firefighters were called to a vacant home to put out a fire Wednesday morning near 34th and Pratt Street.

The fire was reported just before 10 a.m. and took firefighters roughly 10 minutes to extinguish the flames. No injuries were reported.

There was considerable smoke, water and fire damage throughout the home. The fire is believed to have started in part of the roof. OPPD and MUD crews were called in to cut power to the house.

"It actually has a flat roof and then it's built up so they tried to pull some ceiling and had some difficulty getting to it from underneath so we sent some crews up on top with a hose line and they attacked the fire from the top," said OFD Battalion Chief Tony Brannen.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
