A severe thunderstorm warning has been issued for eastern Johnson, northwestern Nemaha and southern Otoe counties in Nebraska until 3:15 p.m. Sunday. A tornado watch is in effect until 10 p.m. Sunday for southeast Nebraska and southwest Iowa, including Omaha, Council Bluffs and Lincoln.
Authorities say an 18-year-old Iowan has accidentally shot himself in the thigh.
Pottawattamie County Sheriff Jeff Danker says the rifle discharged while the young man was cleaning it around 6:30 p.m. Thursday. The shooting occurred at a home near Old Lincoln Highway in Crescent.
The victim was flown for treatment at a hospital in Omaha. His condition was listed as serious.
Danker says "nothing appears suspicious about the shooting."
