Creighton students arrived in force Thursday morning to record a segment that will be featured Friday on NBC's Today Show.
Creighton is one of six finalists in the Today Show contest "Kathie Lee & Hoda Go Back to College." The show is scouring the nation looking for universities with the most school spirit. The school that receives the most votes will get to host Kathie Lee and Hoda for a live show during the first week of October.
Joey Kulczewski, a senior at Creighton, first heard about the contest while watching the show one day.
“I watch Kathie Lee and Hoda every morning. I saw they put out the contest and thought we're an awesome school we can do this,” says Kulczewski.
He then sent out a tweet and in a day the word of the contest spread across campus.
“Oh, my gosh it’s like a dream come true.”
Kulczewski then told his friend, Kaci Frates, about the contest. A fellow senior and member of Pi Beta Phi Sorority, she passed the word along to her sisters and they made a video to submit to the show.
“It’s just become an everyday thing at Creighton,” says Frates. “We have to have Kathy Lee and Hoda come here.”
Creighton is up against power house schools like Ohio state and South Florida. With an undergraduate population of 4200, students say the strategy for votes is aimed at parents and alumni.
“It just goes to show how awesome of a school we have,” says Kulczewski. “With such a small population we can accomplish so much.”
The Creighton segment airs tomorrow at 9a.m. CST.
Voting also ends tomorrow at 2p.m. CST.
