A crash was reported Thursday where new changes have been made at a road construction site in southeast Nebraska. WOWT 6 News reported earlier this week on concerns about the site at Highway 75 and Bay Road near Plattsmouth.
Cass County Sheriff Brueggemann says a car and pickup collided at the intersection. A 2014 Subaru Forester, driven by 31-year old Austin J. Baker of Omaha, was traveling eastbound on Bay Road. Baker tells deputies that he stopped at a stop sign and did not see northbound traffic before proceeding on Bay Road when he collided with a 2007 Chevy Silverado pickup driven by 72-year-old Duane R. Heim of Plattsmouth, who was traveling northbound on Highway 75.
Both drivers refused treatment at the scene. Baker was cited for failing to yield the right-of-way.
The change made this week at the construction site brought northbound and southbound traffic on Highway 75 onto the off-ramps to get around the Bay Road bridge over the highway. The traffic is allowed to proceed onto the on-ramps without stopping.
