The Sarpy County Sheriff's Department Thursday identified the driver killed in a crash Wednesday night as 30-year-old Zachary Austin of Mason City, Iowa.
Austin was heading northbound on 114th Street between Springfield and Papillion at 8 p.m. when authorities say he went through a stop sign at Capehart Road. His pickup hit an eastbound SUV. Both vehicles left the roadway and struck an electrical pole, causing live wires to fall to the ground.
Austin was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the pickup. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The SUV driver, Mackenzie Bougher, a student at Platteview High School, was taken to Alegent Creighton University Medical Center for treatment of injuries not considered life threatening.
Parts of Papillion lost power for just over an hour due to the crash into the pole.
