An Omaha couple gets a rude awakening after a jeep crashes into a tree right in their front yard. They say it isn’t the first time something like this has happened.
Driving past 36th and O you may notice something out of place. A large tree lies across the front yard of a house. No, it’s not a new landscaping style, but the result of a driver.
Joe Burian and his wife Patricia have lived at the house for forty years. They were asleep Sunday morning when they heard a boom. “I couldn’t believe it. My husband got up and he looked out the window,” said Patricia. Her husband told her, “There’s a car out there that took out a tree.”
Joe said his first thought was, “I hope nobody was hurt or killed in that thing because it really squashed the front of it.”
Three people were inside the jeep at the time, but no one was hurt. Now what’s left behind is a big mess. Metal and glass litter their yard along with beer cans.
The couple says just a few weeks ago a car ended up crashing into a light pole across the street. Also, they used to have metal wheels in their front yard. Well another car ended up crashing into those.
The couple says every year the road in front of their house gets busier and busier. “It’s busy and people don’t pay attention,” said Patricia. They hope they won’t have to get another early morning wake up call this one any time soon.
The insurance company is supposed to come and pick up the tree. The driver of the jeep was questioned and tested for alcohol. No word yet on whether there will be any charges.
