Omaha Police made an arrest Wednesday in the middle of what seems to be a rash of motorcycle thefts. The OPD helicopter, Able 1, ran down two suspects in that incident and the victim says the case could lead beyond his bike.

Erich Bockman’s motorcycle was stolen in broad daylight while parked in front of his home.

“I was inside and my neighbor guy came up and said, it was the middle of the afternoon, about five, he said two guys came up lifting it up off the street, put it on a trailer and sped off. So he called the police and it turned out the truck and trailer were stolen.”

Officers responded to the area of 55th and Pinkney. Able-1 located the suspects at 49th and Miami and followed. One suspect, identified as 33-year-old Jeremy Mastbergen, was taken into custody at 49th and Miami but 29-year-old Corey Christensen took off on the motorcycle.

Able-1 followed Christensen to the area of 93rd and Fort Streets, where he crashed the bike. He was taken into custody after a brief foot chase.

Erich believes his 1976 Honda is making a comeback and his bike might have been targeted.

He said, “I know there’s a lot of people who like to take old bikes and put in new parts and stuff and get ‘em running again. So I don’t know if it had something to do with that.”

Erich says this arrest may help police with other thefts.

Mastbergen was booked for theft by unlawful taking and theft by receiving. Christensen is hospitalized. He’ll be charged when he is released.
