Des Moines television station KCCI reports that an animal control officer has put out traps to try to catch what he calls an "urban coyote."
Teresa Marks, who lives in the neighborhood in west Ames, says a coyote that she and others have spotted several times recently trotted toward her children and their friends while they were on a backyard swing set. Marks says the children "came in screaming."

He says he takes his office takes the reports seriously.
