Calling Omaha one of its flagship communities, the president of Cox Communications was in town Friday to announce that our homes will be able to get faster Internet service with speeds of one gigabit per second.
The service has been offered to businesses for years.
If you are a premier or preferred customer your Internet speed will be doubled from the current speed this summer at no extra cost.
Cox also has a number of hot spots in the city that were set up based on where people congregate.
David Brown, with the Greater Omaha Chamber of Commerce, said the announcement will play well when it's trying to attract other businesses to town.
Brown said, “The whole day is about making sure you don't have a fatal flaw that gets you off the list. It's a game about staying in the game. This is one of those things that will be a game-changer. The ability to say we have one-gig service everywhere. We have redundancy all across the market. We can say with a straight face not that we will have it in 10 years but that we have it."
Cox says the changes have been in the works for years.
