Courthouse Dog Might Play Role in Murder Trial

A young witness might be getting some help from Manny the courthouse therapy dog if a judge okays the idea.

The witness is scheduled to take the stand in a murder case.

Steven Braesch of Gretna is charged with first degree murder in the shooting death of his father. Prosecutors say his eight-year-old niece will be called to testify.

Manny will take the stand with her if the judge approves.

Last month WOWT 6 News introduced you to the specially trained Lab retriever and his handler.

If judge approves, Manny will lie down by the young girl to provide a calming effect during testimony.

The motion to have the dog present in court during a murder trial is the first of its kind in Nebraska.
