A Sarpy County couple has to pay for a new roof twice and that's put a dent in their savings to do it. They are the latest victims of unresponsive contractors. Mike McKnight first exposed the company last year.
Photos show why the Nielsen's needed help last fall
Dana Nielsen says, "We were desperate, we were afraid about having a leaking roof."
So Dana and Corey turned to JWT Contracting which painted their house a few years before. Corey says, "We trusted them from the previous work that they did."
So the couple paid JWT contracting nearly $2,700 last October and later got a reassuring text from a co-owner saying "I wouldn't dream of ripping you guys off." But its been a nightmare for the Nielsens ever since.
Corey says, "And then there was no follow-up, they never came.
Dana says, We feel ripped off, completely ripped off."
The Nielsens paid another company to replace the roof while demands for a refund from JWT contracting have been ignored.
so the Nielsens turned to small claims court hoping a judge could get a response from the contractors. But they say the process servers couldn't find the contractors to serve them a summons.
Last year Fact Finders talked to other customers JWT Contracting with similar complaints of work paid for but never completed or started.
An owner of the JWT sent an email to the Nielsens claiming to be in a depressed state of mind.
Corey says, "We understand falling on hard times but you can't continue to take money from people, not do the work and then think that its right."
Corey and Dana Nielsen says they've tried to be civil but it may be time to file a criminal complaint. And that's just what the couple did. Filing a report with Bellevue police. JWT contracting has an "F" rating with the Better Business Bureau. Attempts to contact the company owners have failed.
