Bond has been set for a mother and father charged with felony child abuse.
Chrizelle Els and Daniel Salazar are accused of injuring their 5-week-old child. Investigators say Salazar has admitted to shaking the girl, who suffered serious head trauma and is undergoing treatment.
Bond was set at 10 percent of $75,000 for Els and 10 percent of $1 million for Salazar, who is scheduled to be arraigned on March 10th while Els has a preliminary hearing scheduled for March 24th. The judge told Els to turn in her passport and not to have any contact with minors. Their three children are currently staying with relatives.
An affidavit WOWT 6 News tracked down said Salazar took the little girl to Bellevue Medical Center on January 20th. He claimed at the time that he had dropped her, but the affidavit said he later told police he shook the girl when he couldn't get her to stop crying.
The affidavit said the little girl "had a small bruise on her right eye and eyelid." Investigators noted "a bruise on her chest/stomach area that looked consistent with a thumb or finger squeezing too hard." Doctors confirmed the girl suffered a brain injury.
Salazar's mother told WOWT 6 News what her son has said from jail. "He just says that he is sorry and he doesn't know how to handle children, babies," said Tina Walker.
These allegations of abuse are not the first. In 2013, Els and Salazar's children were also taken away when allegations of abuse towards their son were made. At the time, the young boy was only 3 weeks old. Court documents state bruises were found on both his right and left arms.
Salazar's mother did say this about her son being in jail. "Punishment should be given to people who abuse their children."
The couple has had four children together. One of them died at a young age from SIDS. WOWT 6 News asked if that case would be reopened. The prosecutor only said they're working diligently on this ongoing investigation.
