Countdown to county fair south of Omaha. Some pre-fair activities have already happened. The 4-H Building clean-up starts at 9am on Monday (7/29) and the 4-H Livestock Building and grounds clean-up is Saturday, August 3rd.
The Cassgram states the dates for the Cass County Fair: Tuesday, August 6th through Saturday, August 10th.
After quite a few projects in recent years, fair go-ers won’t notice anything new with the buildings and grounds this year. There were ten new cement pads placed at the campgrounds.
Fair Manager Steve Wehrbein said there had been plans to pour more concrete around the multi-purpose building but the building has been booked for weddings and events every weekend this summer and is booked through the end of October. Rental fees go toward maintenance and improvements of the facilities.
There are two new evening events on the schedule this year, pointed out Wehrbein. One is the demolition derby on Friday night. The other is a comedy show with a hypnotist Saturday night.
“The Sarpy County Fair has had a demolition derby for a number of years and it’s gone over big,” said Wehrbein.
The Outlaw Truck and Tractor Pulling Association brings its show to the fairgrounds again on Wednesday and Thursday nights. Shadow Ridge Band performs Friday night.
“I think the BBQ contest is going to be real big this year too,” said Wehrbein. This is the third year for “Cass Cookin’ at the Fair.”
