Bellevue City Councilwoman Carol Blood wants to represent her community at the state-level. Sunday night, she announced her candidacy for the District 3 unicameral seat.
The seat is currently vacant. State Senator Scott Price stepped down after taking a job in Alabama.
Governor Dave Heineman will appoint a replacement. Blood says she will submit her name for consideration, but will run in 2014 regardless of the outcome.
“I will be a voice for this district’s priorities, including safer neighborhoods, stronger schools, and sustaining a robust business community," says Blood.
She says she was encouraged by area business leaders and community members to serve as a state senator.
The district includes western Bellevue and some of Sarpy County.
In addition to her seat on the City Council, Blood works at Nebraska Self Employment Services. She is a mother of three, and grandmother to six.
