The Omaha City Council gave a tip-of-the-hat to boxer Terence Crawford Tuesday following his defense of his world boxing title here at home.
Crawford said he always wanted to have a title fight in Omaha so the hometown could watch and we didn't disappoint. Nearly 11,000 people were inside the CenturyLink Center to see the referee stop the fight after Crawford had knocked down Gamboa several times.
At Tuesday’s council yesterday members had nothing but praise for how Crawford handled himself in the spotlight.
Councilman Ben Gray said, “If we're lucky and good and in some ways smart, we're going to benefit from this very much in the short term and in the long term future of this city. It woke up a lot of folks around the city to see what Omaha can do."
