In a special City Council meeting, the official dedication of the new park on the Missouri River, the Council passes a resolution to dedicate the new park in honor of the individual who has brought the community back to the river: Council Bluffs’ longtime Mayor, Tom Hanafan.
After a unanimous vote by members of the City Council, the new park on the Iowa side of the Bob Kerrey Pedestrian Bridge is now called “Tom Hanafan River’s Edge Park.”
The official park dedication was held tonight for hundreds of park supporters who came together to make Tom Hanafan River’s Edge Park possible. After the park dedication, the donor plaza was unveiled where those supporters are recognized.
The City of Council Bluffs and the Iowa West Foundation along with many event sponsors invite the public to celebrate the grand opening of Tom Hanafan River’s Edge Park beginning this weekend at Loessfest: three weeks of free events to celebrate Council Bluffs.
