The Omaha City Council has approved plans for rezoning one area and redeveloping another in an attempt to keep both locations thriving.

One of the targets is the area around 80th and Dodge. The city wants to get business in a vacant building there.

Right now, this particular target zone includes two commercial spaces and five residential. In order to attract a developer, the city decided to change the zoning from a miss-match of different things to simply Community Commercial. They think that will make it more appealing.

Another area the city is looking to improve is Benson. They approved money that will go into the design plans for the Benson Downtown Streetscape Improvement Project. The idea is to put in new sidewalks, parking, plazas, and landscaping to keep customers happy and businesses thriving.

Once the design plans are complete they hope to start construction in 2015.
