Nebraska farmers have taken advantage of drier weather to get most of the corn planted and make good progress on the soybean crop.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture says in Monday's weekly report that 74 percent of the corn is now in the ground.

The average is 50 percent.

Twenty-five percent of the corn has emerged.

The report says 29 percent of the soybean crop has been planted,
well ahead of the average of 10 percent.

The USDA says farmers made significant progress last week with
above normal temperatures and limited precipitation.

Daytime highs ranged from the 90s in southern Nebraska with lows in the 30s in the Panhandle.

About an inch of rain fell in east central and southeast Nebraska, will less than a-half inch in other areas.
