"Cops & Bobbers" Event Teaches Kids To Trust Police

Omaha Police and Local families gathered at Benson park Sunday afternoon for a few hours of “Cops and Bobbers.” The event brought the two groups together to fish and get to know one another.

Though police mentioned the weather did result in a lower attendance, dozens still showed up. The event took place from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

The purpose was to allow children to get to know and trust law enforcement officers. Lt. John Sokolik told WOWT 6 News, “{The kids} Come out and see police officers in a manner other than what they're used to it's not a 911 call its not in an emergency situation its not the scene of a traffic accident it's an opportunity to see us as ordinary people.”

This is the fourth year the department held the event.
