Cool and cloudy weather is slowing the drying of crops as the fall harvest gains momentum across Iowa.
Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Bill Northey released his weekly crop report Monday, saying 5 percent of the state's corn crop has been harvested, equal to the five-year average. Just 3 percent of the state's soybean crop has been harvested, well behind the 8 percent that is considered normal.
Seventeen percent of Iowa's corn crop is in poor or very poor condition. Fifty-six percent is rated as good or excellent.
Eleven percent of the state's soybean crop is in poor or very poor condition with 63 percent being rated as good or excellent.
Northey says hopefully dry weather this week will help farmers harvest the crop without the need for much drying.
