A Lincoln man convicted of scamming people out of nearly $83,000 as a "business consultant" has appealed his prison sentence.
The Lincoln Journal Star says 51-year-old Timothy Loontjer was sentenced on Wednesday to 12 to 17 years for stealing from clients in real estate deals. On Thursday, he asked the Nebraska Court of Appeals to reconsider his sentence and allow him out on bail while the appeal is ongoing.
A Lancaster County judge sentenced Loontjer to two sentences of five-to-seven years and added 20 to 40 months on a total of three theft charges.
Loontjer pleaded no contest last month and prosecutors dropped four other charges.
