Volunteers spend weekends making a construction zone "kid proof." Their hard work paid off!

The Construction Zone at the Omaha Children's Museum has it all! From a crane, to a paint room...to plumbing projects.

Larry Keith, of Topping Out, helped design the crane and pulley system.

Keith says, " We wanted kids to have an idea of what pulley's can do."

Keith, and his coworkers, volunteered every weekend for a month to help design it.

Mike Naccarato, a structural engineer, also helped.

He says, "The crane weighs about 13,000 pounds. I did a couple of calculations to make sure it wouldn't fall through the floor."

These volunteers worked out of a retired man's garage, setting up a temporary shop to design it all.

The exhibit runs through April 22nd.

Midwest Scaffold Service, Clear Creek Landscapes, Watkins and Heartland Scenic Studio.

The organizations involved have spent hundreds of hours developing the exhibit and building it in the 10,000 square foot traveling exhibit gallery on the museum's second floor.
