“It is up to you and only you on whether you will be successful in life. Only you will eventually empower you,” Representative Lee Terry said.

He is talking about the Congressional Award, a challenge given to kids age 14 and up. To set goals in four areas.

“It's a very unique program. It's really good to help you grow in all levels of your life,” Bellevue West Senior Alysa Dail said.

Dail has completed the program last year and spoke to current students about her success.

“It's allowed me to grow more personally than anything. I've learned how to complete goals and overcome obstacles no matter how big or small,” Dail said.

Dail and many other students set goals in public service, personal development, physical fitness and exploration.

“It's really hard to find that much time to get that many hours. Volunteering is the heaviest weighted thing to get any of the medals,” she said.

Now she is hoping to inspire more students to get involved.

“It's time to live your life, not dream your life away. Believe in each other because its clear that team work makes your dreams work,” Heisman Trophy winner Johnny Rodgers said.

Any student can sign up to earn Congressional Award.
