Students with Concordia High School in Omaha have won the 2014 Nebraska Envirothon State Championship.
Their names are Ben Fletcher, Pearce Davis, Michael Eesley, Matthew Kernen and Sam Manning. Their coach is Mike Ellis.
The contest was held at the Crane Trust Nature and Visitor Center near Alda on Saturday May 3rd.
The five member team competed in seven areas of environmental studies including soils, aquatic, forestry, wildlife, range, and sustainable agriculture. Along with written test questions students had to complete observations, measurements, and calculations.
The winning school received a $1,500 prize. Each team member was also awarded a $500 scholarship by the University of Nebraska-Lincoln to be used towards a major in the College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural resources.
