Omaha-based ConAgra has purchased a Chinese potato processor for $93-million. TaiMei Potato Industry Limited is based in the largest potato region in China.
The acquisition expands ConAgra’s Lamb Weston operations, which makes a variety of potato, sweet potato, and other vegetable products for restaurants, retailers, and foodservice operators in more than 100 countries.
TaiMei was established only four years ago. By purchasing it, ConAgra says it can be closer to providing frozen potato products to its expanding customer base in Asia. It says there is a growing demand for potato products there.
