ConAgra Foods Inc. and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln are teaming up to research popcorn and tomatoes at the university's Innovation Campus.
UNL researchers will study ways to improve the popcorn and tomatoes used in ConAgra's brands, such as Orville Redenbacher's and Hunt's.
The university and ConAgra announced the partnership on Friday, the same day UNL broke ground at Innovation Campus, where it's beginning construction of four new or renovated buildings. The project represents $80 million in public and private investments.
ConAgra, based in Omaha, is first tenant at Innovation Campus. It plans to lease greenhouse space at the renovated Industrial Arts Buildings. Innovation Campus, on the former state fairgrounds, will be a public-private research and technology development center.
