Tobacco compliance checks to see who is selling to minors.
The Cassgram reports Tobacco Free Cass County checks of Plattsmouth tobacco license holders resulted in a compliance rate of 89%. All nine tobacco license holders were checked; one location in Plattsmouth sold tobacco to minors,
“Tobacco use is still a large problem with youth,” said Officer Leroy Lewis. “But we believe the partnership between Plattsmouth Police Department and Tobacco Free Cass County can work together and reach 100% compliance our next go around.”
Cooperating minors assist with the checks, use their own identification and make no attempt to look over the legal purchase age.
“We’re glad to see tobacco license holder employees asking for ID from the cooperating minors and recognizing that they were not old enough to purchase tobacco products. Those Plattsmouth tobacco license holders should be commended,” said Joan Friedman, Tobacco Coordinator with Tobacco Free Cass County.
