A comic book shop damaged in a massive fire at 83rd and Blondo last month is set to reopen at a new location.

The fire happened on February 23rd. Several businesses and apartments on the property were damaged. One of them was Dragon's Lair Comics & Games. It had been there since 1976.

They will now reopen on Wednesday just down the street at 91st and Blondo.

Workers are busy organizing and re-stocking their shelves. It’s been a long month for them since the fire. Manager Tom Miller said, “It's been very stressful. Just realizing how much stuff we had in stock, how much damage, how much we would need to replace, how much we'll have to sell at what price."

Miller says 40 to 60 percent of the store was damaged by smoke or water. “It meant a lot of sorting. We had to go through each of these comic bins, pull out every comic individually to see if any water had gotten into them."

They are selling some of those damaged items at discounted prices. Also, some of the overstock merchandise will be on sale.

Miller says they’re glad to move on from the fire and they’ll have even more space at the new spot. “We’re pretty excited for the new building.”

Firefighters said the fire started next door at Treasure Mart Collectibles then spread through a concealed pipe chase. That business was also forced to close. There’s no word yet on whether they will reopen.

A construction company that was also located there has now relocated.
