The Omaha Fire Department is working with the Salvation Army to bring warmth into the lives of metro area families who need some help this winter.
Mayor Jean Stothert and a member of her staff were among those donating coats Tuesday to the Salvation Army’s Coat Drive.
The Salvation Army will distribute gently-used and new coats, along with sweaters, gloves, scarfs and anything to help fight off the cold. Just take your donations to any fire station.
Lt. Pam Kasten, with the Salvation Army, said, "A lot of families have to choose between paying the rent or buying coats. Sometimes kids go without coats so they can have a warm place to live, so your help through the community is very much appreciated."
This is the third year the Salvation Army and the Fire Department have teamed up for the coat drive.
