The head girls basketball coach at Iowa's Independence High School has carried through with his intention to quit after saying he was being bullied by parents.

Rod Conrad and assistant coach Rob Ratchford had complained of threats and criticism from parents and others. The school board accepted Ratchford's resignation on Monday. He said some parents even threatened to fight the coaches.

Conrad said last week he had second thoughts, citing community support that had surfaced. Athletics Director Rob Arnold said Thursday Conrad decided that after everything that happened, he didn't think he could be as effective in the post.
