Recount completed and close race decided. It is now official: there will be a new District 1 Cass County Commissioner.
The Cassgram reports the canvassing board completed its recount of the tight race between Republican John Warsing and Democrat John Baroni, the incumbent. The final count: 919 for Warsing, 903 for Baroni.
That means a majority of the board will be new members when the new board is seated in January. Dan Henry of Louisville (District 4) and Duane Murdoch of Nehawka (District 5) will join Warsing as first-time commissioners.
The terms of District 2 Commissioner Janet McCartney and District 3 Commissioner Jim Peterson expire in two years.
