Messy property owners must pay for cleanup in one community.
Over $8,300 worth of special assessments were levied against eleven properties. The properties had been in violation of the code enforcement ordinances and the city hired out the clean-up work. The special assessments were then made because the property owners have not reimbursed the city.
The Cassgram quotes “This is what happens when people don’t clean up their property, whether it’s their residence or rental property,” said City Councilman Terry D. Tilson in calling attention to the time it takes to remedy the situation and the financial outlay of the city. And code enforcement can be dangerous work for police officers because they sometimes have to deal with angry residents or vicious dogs, he noted.
