Class Provides Ongoing Support For People With Diabetes

Diabetes is a chronic, widespread condition that can seem difficult to manage. Untreated, it can result in heart disease and stroke, kidney and nerve damage, and affect eyesight, circulation and healing capacity.

Fremont Area Medical Center’s free “Living Well with Diabetes” class is a valuable source for on-going education for individuals with diabetes. It provides a review of self-management skills and the nutritional aspect of diabetes and heart health. This course is a great follow-up for people who have already taken the “Taking Charge” Diabetes Self-Management class. Individuals may attend this class as often as necessary to feel confident in managing their disease.

“Living Well with Diabetes” is scheduled for Tuesday, February 28, from 6 to 7:30 p.m., on the third floor of FAMC’s Health Park Plaza. This class is free and registration is not required.

“At this month’s meeting, we’re excited to have a special guest speaker, Jim Murphy,” says Julie Kamphaus, FAMC’s certified diabetes educator. “Jim is a regular person who has learned to manage his diabetes. He’ll share self-management and lifestyle strategies based on extensive training and his own personal experience living with diabetes. Diabetes patients need to know they are not alone and there are people like Jim who can help them along their journey with diabetes.”

FAMC’s diabetes education courses are recognized by the American Diabetes Association (ADA) for meeting the National Standards for Diabetes Self-Management Education Programs.
