City and county employees joined together Friday in memory of Dr. Martin Luther King.
Civic leaders led the ceremony with speeches and song.
They also took time to praise the family of five-year-old Payton Benson who called for peace and love in this community even after their child died such a violent death.
Omaha Mayor Jean Stothert said, "Every life in our city matters. Every violent death is unacceptable. When I reflect on Dr. King's message, it's easy to see that his dreams are as relevant today as they were 50 years ago."
This was the eighth year for the city/county event.
