A severe thunderstorm warning is in effect for central Pottawattamie and central Lancaster counties until 4:30 p.m. A tornado watch is in effect until 10 p.m. Sunday for southeast Nebraska and southwest Iowa, including Omaha, Council Bluffs and Lincoln.
A longtime public servant received a send-off fitting for his job. The Douglas County Courthouse jury room was where City Prosecutor Marty Conboy said his goodbyes on Thursday.
He's retiring after more than three decades and thousands of misdemeanor cases, including one he worked on with Channel 6 News, getting a law changed to prohibit secret videotaping in rest rooms.
“With the relationship we had with the public and through the media, then certainly when a story runs like that, it’s pretty compelling to the Legislature we better do something to solve that problem.”
Conboy hasn’t quite packed up to leave yet. He'll be helping Interim City Prosecutor David Smallheiser with the transition for the next few weeks. A permanent replacement may take a few months to go through the selection process.
